Cat Races

One evening while I was holding an online class lecture, the kitties, Socks and Elsa, got jazzed about a green toy mouse.

This particular mouse was passed around between the two of them: Socks would toss it up in the air and bat it around; Elsa would get jealous and steal the toy. This back and forth has been going on for many weeks.

On this particular evening my husband was winding down in the bedroom and decided to have a snack. He went into the kitchen to see Socks, green mouse gripped in his mouth, slide in from the living room, loose traction, and bump against the fridge. Elsa was right behind him and lost traction as well. The force of his sister took the wind out of Socks, and the toy popped out of his mouth as the air was knocked out of him.

Now it was a free for all. Socks, being more agile and quick, recovered faster, snatched up the toy and darted back into the living room, with Elsa waddling behind.

I wasn’t aware of any of this until I had finished working for the night. When my husband told me the story, I started laughing.

Times can be hard sometimes. But it’s the little moments, the small successes and happiness, that make it all worthwhile. Whatever your dealing with these holidays, know that there is always something in the world to keep you going.

Plus cats are cute.
