I’ve got some new stories in the works.
So this week is my high school’s spring break, and like so many other schools in Texas, we are extending our break out. Which means lots of writing time!
One is completely written and is in the polishing stage. It will be a novella instead of a collection this time. The main character struggles to tell the difference between real and unreal while she pursues her science studies—a different kind of mad scientist. You can see the de-evolving of the character as she struggles. Eventually she uncovers what is really going on and attempts to deal with reality in the best way she thinks possible. The writing of this story was strongly influenced by Chuck Palahniuk.
This story has a strong science backdrop, and it was fun bringing it to life with my science knowledge. Write about what you know, right?
My next collection of horror short stories is put on the back burner for the moment, but most of those stories are already written as well, they just have to be re-read and edited. I don’t know how long this next collection will be. My first collection, Black Cat Scribbles Vol. 1, had ten stories in it. I sell those stories as a collection and for sale individually, but I’m not sure if I will sell them individually for future collections.
I am revising an older general fiction collection that was my first published book. The publishing company went out of business, and since it was published in a time where ebooks hadn’t gained traction, there is only a paperback version. I’m thinking of dusting off those stories, giving them a fresh revision, and publishing the ebook.
I am also working on another novella that’s regular fiction with a somewhat different take on things. This is very much a work in progress and to be honest I am struggling writing it. I plan on hopefully finishing it up by the end of summer, and I may or may not publish it.
I have also decided to turn on of my stories into a screenplay. It’s been interesting converting over to script format. I might pitch it to some people, but it’s something I’ve never done before so I figured I would give it a shot. I am under the impression it might not be good, but it might be another avenue of writing to explore in the future.
I think these projects will keep me busy for a while. While I do write fast, I tend to burn out after so many pages; I remember the days when I would spend almost the entire weekend writing. Now I think I am so burnt out from the week that I only have so much to give to my writing. Plus getting up early and going to bed late after work working on my writing and blog kind of burn me out as well.
Here when I talk about burn out, what I really mean is just tired. I had really bad burnout last year, and I plan on avoiding that as much as possible (you can read about that here).
But now that I have more time off, I plan on making some major headway on my stories.
What projects are you working on?
