Anniversary Presents

Earlier this week I got my anniversary present.

My and my husband’s anniversary was about two weeks ago. For his present he wanted to work in the yard. He took Friday off and we planned to have a three-day work weekend.

On Friday we rented a dump trailer and hauled mulch to our house from a place giving it away for free. All morning and afternoon long we hauled loads until there was about 35 yards of mulch sitting in piles spread across the property.

For Saturday and Sunday we mulched our butts off.

It was soooo hot. We got up early when the sun rose and worked until we got too hot. There was a swamp cooler blowing on the back porch, keeping us cool enough on breaks to work just a little bit longer. By the end of the weekend we had all but one pile of mulch taken care of, half of which I used on Monday to finish mulching around our fruit trees up front.

What was my present? I wanted to sit in the hot tub with the heat off and cool ourselves in the shade after working.

Well, my husband opened up the tub components that Saturday and found out a part he didn’t have was broken. Then he ordered it and it took a while to come in. This past weekend the hot tub got fixed and we filled it up with cold well water. It was chilly to touch.

Then it started raining and the temperature drops. After packing everything up that we worked on last weekend I turned on the hot tub to warm up the water overnight. On Monday I slipped into the tub after work and it was just the right temperature. This was the moment I had been waiting for, just in time for the cooler weather.

Sometimes things are worth the wait. You put in the effort up front and get rewarded when the dust settles. Most things in life need perseverance and commitment in order to be fruitful. There are rarely any get-rich-quick schemes that work, which is why unicorns are so rare. Put in the effort. In the end it will be worth it.

What are you waiting on?
