When the Cat Gets Black Friday

This holiday season was filled with relatives, relaxation, and recreation. The previous weekend my husband and I celebrated Turkey Day, and then geared up for a week of other types of festivities: the hunting variety for my husband, and focused writing for me. We were both pumped.

My husband, his brother, and friend made a valiant effort to bring home meat, but the only successful hunter out there was a housecat. This strategic creature was going around to all the hunting blinds meowing pathetically, but loudly. What’s a huntsman to do?

Give it snacks of course. Which the cat immediately took, ran off, then went and found another unsuspecting hunter to start all over with.

My husband was one of this feline’s victims. He came trolling through the grass rather loudly with his mews, smelling beef jerky. My husband tried to shoo him away, but the only thing that worked was a piece of his meal. As soon as the cat snatched it, the noises stopped and it slinked away in the grass. When my husband told me how he waited all day for a deer but only the cat got spoils, I laughed.

My writing week was like that cat, taking morsels where I found them and snacking through the week.

A tldr of my writing progress is below, which was a parallel process for many of these things:

  • Read great craft books
  • Created an outline for my next WIP, then decided on a better plotline
  • Revised outline to be even more awesome and got some pages in
  • Finished my next poetry book rough draft
  • Worked on edits of my previous WIP
  • Decided on some pivot moves with my future WIPS
  • Signed up for a course and some conferences for the 2024 year with Black Friday deals.

I read a post this week that said people think cats are standoffish, individual creatures. The truth is they are nosy, may steal your food, cause racket and shenanigans, and induce cat paralysis when you sit down. Not to say my feline fiction does these things (who would read a book that has litter falling from the pages???) but more cats are coming to bring you adventures, laughs, and thrills.

Until next time, dear readers.
